This update is for the first month with a new client, the slowest month QBuddy ever has. QBuddy now suggests the rules for you, takes a second look at the rules you already have, and sets up a new client's chart. You stay in charge: nothing changes until you say so.
New
Smart Categorize
Rules that write themselves. You still sign off.
Open a statement and click Smart Categorize. QBuddy groups the lines that have no rule by payee and suggests the account for each one: your firm's own choices first, then how businesses like this client usually categorize that payee, then AI for the rest. Tick the ones you like, click once, and each becomes a rule. Next month those lines are already blue.
On Review Transactions, click the blue Smart Categorize button. Its number counts the lines with no rule yet.
The First Month: a new client's first statement, with Smart Categorize. One minute, with sound. Sample firm, invented data.
Your firm firstYour own rules come first, then common practice, then AI.
You see whyEvery suggestion shows where it came from, how sure it is and the reason.
Undo in one clickNothing changes until you apply. The History tab of the Rules window undoes a whole session.
Your client's name, account numbers and your firm's name never leave QBuddy. What is sent is used to answer, never to train AI.
Second Opinion
A second look at the rules you already have.
QBuddy puts each rule this client already has beside what common practice and AI suggest, the ones that differ first. The rule that sent Shell Oil to Meals and Entertainment for years finally gets caught. Change only the ones you choose.
Where to find it
On Review Transactions, right click the list and choose Second opinion on the rules.
Two rules changed, eighteen left as they were, and Undo all of this if you change your mind. Sample firm, invented data.
Industries and Smart Start
Tell QBuddy what a client does. Once.
Suggestions follow the industry: a landscaper's SiteOne is materials, a restaurant's Sysco is food cost. Smart Start proposes the accounts that kind of business usually has and the client's chart is missing, each with why. Tick them and they are created in QuickBooks.
Where to find it
On the client's page in QBuddy Clients, next to Industry: Change, Smart Start and All clients.
Seven accounts a restaurant usually has and this chart does not. Untick one, create six. Sample client, invented data.
Advanced rules and Copy rules
When a keyword is not enough.
Advanced rules
Rules that look at more than a keyword: the amount, money in or out, the bank account, or a check. What fails the test can go to another account, and one transaction can be split across accounts.

Example
HARBOR STREET BAKERYACME
Every account matched to this client's chart: the same name, a near name, or your pick
A keyword this client already has is left out, never doubled

Every list shows the account type next to the account.
Where to find it
Everywhere. Nothing to turn on.
Money out in red, lines with a rule in blue, four left for a person. Sample firm, invented data.
